In my case, the Windows 7 product key was located under the battery. After Windows installed, I opened the disc again, and installed the network drivers from the app on the disc (I forgot the file name, but it's the dark colored icon). That was easy too. Once I got online, I had 192 updates to download! That took a bit of time. Yeah, I would definitely recommend. Windows Vista has to be one of the most reviled versions of Windows, right up there with Bob and Windows Me.The first release of Vista probably deserved some of the criticism, but so did those who tried to install it on older machines that just weren't up to the task.
Microsoft probably set expectations a little too high, and as what happened with the first Star Wars prequel, the end product was never going to live up to the expectations.I did not have any experience with Vista until after the release of SP1, so I might have been spared some ugliness that came out of the gates. Since this review is for the SP1 version, I can safely say that you won't experience the pain and agony that was felt by some of those early adopters, IF you install it on decent hardware.Don't install a current operating system on hardware.
Great for HDD ReplacementI used this cd to reinstall windows to my Toshiba Satellite Laptop that I bought in 2011. I used the product key that was on my Toshiba, a product key that was 6 years old, to activate the windows after replacing my HDD. It worked perfectly!The only issues I had were not with the disc. I had to download drivers to my MAC for my Toshiba so it would have wifi access again.
Then it took me hours to download all the security updates from 2-3 years of non use. But it worked and the Lap Top is like a whole new computer. Good product for re-installing Windows 7 or repairing a problem you are having with your programUnfortunately I wanted a disc to install Windows 7 onto my computer.
The jacket to this item is deceptive because it looks the same as the jacket of the Windows 7 program that is ready to install on your computer. In fact, the cover says plainly shows Windows 7 Home Premium.
This is to re-install Windows 7 on your computer or to fix a problem with the program you are now using. There was a description of this product that says 'Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit Install Boot Recovery Restore DVD Disc.' Because it says install, I assumed (wrongly) that this would install the program on my computer. However it is a re-install and that is only mentioned in the somewhat long description of the product. If I needed to re-install Windows or needed to repair a program now on my computer, this would have been a great product. So for those who only want to re-install or repair Windows 7, this would be a great program for you.
It just didn't meed my needs. What a relief!I gave my old Asus A53U to my 9yr old son for school work and light internet use. It was slowing down when I gave it to him but it never came with a windows cd. I had done the windows 10 upgrade but that just slowed down more and when we did a restore back to windows 7.
The issue never cleared. So I decided to give this cd a try. It arrived today and I gave it to my son and he did the format and install, now, the computer is running fast again. We are both very pleased. So glad we had our product key because it is needed.
